Objective
To be happy, make nice things and to be a good person.
Education
August 1998 - May 2004BA in Fine Arts, East Carolina University
Greenville, North Carolina
ECU’s art program emphasizes concept, creative process, direction and production. While attending the university I practiced graphic design, typography, digital and traditional illustration, animation, photography and videography – while also studying art history, contexts and aesthetics.
Career Development
March 2006 - Present Senior Interactive Developer, Studiobanks
Charlotte, North Carolina
At Studiobanks, I designed and developed websites and interactive applications at one of Charlotte’s leading web-centric design firms. Since Studiobanks is a boutique-sized firm (8 full-time employees), I was involved in all aspects of a website’s lifespan (from concept to launch to ongoing maintenance). The day-to-day required an understanding of functional design, web standards, usability, database integration, SEO and design patterns while overseeing, educating and delegating responsibilities to the company’s Junior Designers & Developers. Studiobanks is a 6-year old firm whose larger Charlotte-area clients include Bojangles’, The Billy Graham Foundation, Discovery Place, Duke Energy, Greg Biffle, Hendrick Motorsports and Muzak; and achievements include 6 ADDY’s in 2006, 12 in 2007 and 16 in 2008, including Best of Show for Charlotte (‘07).
June 2009 - July 2010 Internet Director, AIGA Charlotte
Charlotte, North Carolina
As the Internet Director for AIGA Charlotte, I was responsible for managing and maintaining the Chapter’s highly trafficked website and overseeing all of the Chapter’s electronic tools such as the Board of Directors’ email accounts, Basecamp, email campaigns and electronic calendars. I was also charged with keeping AIGA Charlotte educated on the latest electronic trends.
July 2005 - March 2006 Graphic Designer, Image Plus Graphics
Jacksonville, North Carolina
The child company of TI Group (one of Toronto’s largest commercial printers), Image Plus’ mission was two fold: to fill the design, advertising, and printing needs of Jacksonville’s local clientele, and to publish a series of free, advertising focused magazines (each targeting a unique demographic). While at Image Plus, I had the interesting opportunity to work for a small, startup company with the resources of a large, established corporation. My principal duties included: pitching comps to clients; directing photo shoots; proofreading copy; building and maintaining websites; pre-flighting files; and designing logos, posters, large format signage, ad campaigns, magazine layouts and miscellaneous collateral material.
July 2004 - July 2005 Graphic Designer & Prepress Technician,
Brochure Specialists
Jacksonville, North Carolina
Brochure Specialists served as a print-provider and design shop for the Eastern North Carolina area, focusing mainly on digital and offset lithography print jobs. My daily routine at Brochure Specialists consisted of pre-flighting customer files, creating and maintaining FTP accounts, providing clients with technical support, generating proofs for client approval and producing all in-house design work.
March 2001 - August 2004 Visual Informations Specialist,
MCCS’s Visual Department
Camp Lejeune, North Carolina
The role of the Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is to provide childcare, shopping, education, family support and recreational services to Camp Lejeune’s 150,000 residents. A typical day working in MCCS’s Visual Department would entail designing signage, posters and banners for the organization’s various programs; troubleshooting inner-office computer issues; and managing small-run print jobs. While at MCCS I was awarded Employee of the Month on two occasions.
January 1998 - June 1998 Graphic Arts Intern, The Daily News
Jacksonville, North Carolina
As a senior in high school I was given the opportunity to intern at one of Jacksonville’s local newspapers. During this internship, I became familiar with the equipment, software (Photoshop, Illustrator, QuarkXpress, etc.) and printing processing available at the time and kindled what has become a life long interest in design and printing.
